Fair Billing Policy

Most SaaS platforms that operate on a seat purchase model will charge you per user regardless of how many people on your team are actively using it. Unlike this, Motiff offers a fair billing policy where you and your team should only pay for the seats that are actually used.

  • Motiff's Fair Billing Policy applies to both Professional and Organization plans. The pricing for different plans is as follows:

    You can upgrade or downgrade seats according to your team’s actual needs at any time, without having to pay for temporary seats for a whole year.

  • When you purchase a Professional or Organization plan, you will be charged for all the paid seats purchased. You will be billed for a minimum of 1 Designer seat for the Professional plan and 3 Designer seats for the Organization plan.

  • If you downgrade seats, we will calculate the number of unused days and refund the credits proportionally, which you can see on your next billing date.

Additionally, Motiff has designed features to avoid unintended payments. In some SaaS platforms, members can upgrade to paid seats on their own. Unlike this, Motiff charges paid seats only after admin approval, preventing unnecessary payments due to mistakes of certain members. But if you prefer letting members upgrade on their own, you can also change the settings in Motiff.

Seat upgrades

If you are on a Professional or Organization plan and upgrade your seats during the billing cycle, Motiff will calculate the cost for the remaining days of the billing cycle and charge you for the upgraded seats on your next billing date.

An example

Your team is on the Professional plan and you're paying monthly, $5 per Designer seat and $1 per Developer seat. Ten days into your billing cycle, you upgrade a Viewer seat into a Designer seat. Twenty days into your billing cycle, you upgrade a Developer seat into a Designer seat. There are 30 days in total in this billing cycle.

How you are billed

To calculate the prorated cost for upgrading a Viewer seat into a Designer seat: $5 × (30 - 10 days) / 30 days = $ 3.33.

To calculate the prorated cost for upgrading a Developer seat into a Designer seat: ($5 - $1) × (30 - 20 days) / 30 days = $ 1.33.

Seat downgrades

If you are on a Professional or Organization plan and downgrade your seats during the billing cycle, Motiff will calculate the credits for the remaining days of the billing cycle and settle them on your next billing date.

Credits can be used for deductions in future payments within Motiff, such as adding new paid seats or purchasing a paid plan for the next billing cycle, but can not be refunded as cash.

An example

Your team is on the Professional plan and you're paying monthly, $5 per Designer seat and $1 per Developer seat. Ten days into your billing cycle, you downgrade a Designer seat into a Viewer seat. Twenty days into your billing cycle, you downgrade a Designer seat into a Developer seat.

How you are billed

To calculate the refunded credits for downgrading a Designer seat into a Viewer seat: $5 × (30 - 10 days) / 30 days = 3.33 credits.

To calculate the refunded credits for downgrading a Designer seat into a Developer seat: ($5 - $1) × (30 - 20 days) / 30 days = 1.33 credits.
