Fix font issues

When you encounter text and font issues in Motiff, you can troubleshoot and fix them in the following ways.

Motiff supports the use of fonts from the following sources. If a font exists in multiple places, Motiff will use them in the following order:

  1. 1.Fonts uploaded to the team's shared fonts.
  2. 2.Fonts installed on the local device.
  3. 3.Cloud fonts provided by Motiff.

Troubleshoot font issues

Font conflicts

If different versions of the same font are used in a file, the following situations may occur.

Missing fonts warning in file

When you use a certain font, but some files indicate that the font is missing, it is possible that different versions of the same font were used in that file.

Text layer movement or text format changes

When editing a text layer, if you notice the reposition of the layer or the reset of text format, such as changes in layer’s baseline, text weight, or the alignment, it may suggest that you are using a different version of the same font across your files. For example:

Tim installed Inter v3.0 on his local device and used it in a Motiff file. A few days later, Yuki installed Inter v3.16 and opened the same file. She edited an existing text layer with the Inter font and the layer moved up by two pixels. Although Tim and Yuki installed the same font, they have different versions.

Missing fonts

When you open a file, Motiff checks if you have access to the fonts used in that file. If you do not have access to certain fonts in the text, the file will display '16_Common_MissingFont.svg' .

In addition, there can be several reasons for missing fonts:

  • Uninstalled fonts: Other collaborators in the file have used fonts that you have not installed.
  • Font version conflicts: Other collaborators in the file have used different versions of the same font.
  • Missing certain font weights: The font you are using does not include certain weight.

View missing fonts

If you do not have access to the font in use, '16_Common_MissingFont.svg' will appear in the toolbar. When you select a text layer with a missing font, the font name in the right sidebar will also display '16_Common_MissingFont.svg' .

  1. 1.Click '16_Common_MissingFont.svg' to view the missing fonts.
  2. 2.Click '16_Panel_Target.svg' in the Missing font modal to view the text layers with the missing fonts.
