A clear naming structure or hierarchy makes managing layers easier. You can select a single layer to modify its name or select multiple layers to use the Batch rename layers feature to complete bulk modifications.
Rename a single layer
You can modify the layer name in the following ways:
- Right-click on the layer you want to rename in the Layers panel and select the Rename option.
- Double-click on the layer name in the Layers panel.
- Use shortcut keys:
- macOS: ⌘ Command + R
- Windows: Ctrl + R

Select multiple layers you want to rename in the canvas or the layers list.

You can open the Rename layers modal in the following ways:
- Right-click on the selected layers in the layers list and choose Rename.
- Use shortcut keys:
- macOS: ⌘ Command + R
- Windows: Ctrl + R

The Rename layers modal will appear in the canvas area.
Examples of renaming layers
Motiff supports various renaming rules, making layers easier to identify and manage after batch renaming. You can modify layer names in bulk through the input box and buttons while previewing the results in real time on the left side.
Rename layers to the same name
You can rename the selected layers to the same name.
- 1.Select the layers you want to rename and open the rename layers dialog.
- 2.Enter the new layer name in the Rename to input box.
- 3.Click the Rename button.
Add numeric sequences to layer names
You can add numeric suffixes (or prefixes) to layer names to distinguish layers with similar names.
- 1.Select the layers you want to rename and open the rename layers dialog.
- 2.Enter the new layer name in the Rename to input box.
- 3.Click Number↑ or Number↓ button to add a piece of code to the Rename to input box, indicating where the ascending or descending numbers will be replaced.
- 4.If necessary, you can modify the numbers for Start ascending from or Start descending to.
- 5.Click the Rename button.
Add prefixes to layer names
You can add prefixes for grouping while retaining the original layer names for quicker editing.
- 1.Select the layers you want to rename and open the rename layers dialog.
- 2.Enter the prefix you want to add in the Rename to input box.
- 3.Click the Current name button to add a piece of code to the Rename to input box, indicating where the original layer name will be replaced.
- 4.Click the Rename button.
Replace part of layer names
Using the Match input box, you can replace only part of the layer names.
- 1.Select the layers you want to rename and open the rename layers dialog.
- 2.Enter the part of the layer name you want to replace in the Match input box.
- 3.Enter the new name in the Rename to input box.
- 4.Click the Rename button.
