The instance is a copy of the main component, with certain properties restricted from changes. If you wish to modify these restricted properties or no longer receive updates from the main components, you can detach the instance.
After detaching the instance, Motiff will:
- Convert the instance into a frame, while retaining the current layers and properties.
- Delete the link to the main component.
- No longer synchronize changes from the main component.
- 1.Choose the instance you want to detach.
- 2.Click in the instance section.
- 3.Select Detach instance from the menu.
- 1.Right-click on the instance on the canvas or in the Layers panel.
- 2.Choose Detach instance from the menu.
Use shortcuts
Select the instance you want to detach and use the shortcut keys to detach the instance:
- macOS: ⌥ Option + ⌘ Command + B
- Windows: Ctrl + Alt + B
Tip: How to undo an accidentally created component?
If you have just created a component, you can use the shortcut to immediately undo it:

- Windows: Ctrl + Z
If the component has been created for a while, you can convert it to a regular layer by following these steps:
- 1.Create an instance of the new component.
- 2.Detach the instance from the component.
- 3.Delete the original main component.
